** Warning** this is a LONG post - but I couldn't leave out any of the fun we had on Good Friday with all the Hartzler Great Grand-kids.
This year we were trying to find somewhere to go with all the kids. We decided to get Creative and do a HOP ALONG day for the kids with a Bible study (thanks Joanna for your work with the Bible study part) along the way to learn about Jesus and Good Friday. This was VERY last minute - but with everyone's help it came together GREAT! Each of the FIVE stops we had a short study and at each stop was the letters J.E.S.U.S. Every stop also had something for the kids do, eat or drink.
J- Was at Grandma & Grandpa Hartzler. We started off with the annual Easter Egg Hunt. The kids then had a snack of pretzel, grapes & cookies and received a blue "j"ean pocket necklace to start their journey. This way their hands were free for other activities at each place. We had a few verses about Jesus dying on the cross and the darkness covering the earth. Blue symbolized the sadness and darkness of the day. They each got a bandanna and they had to put it on for 3 minutes and see if they could recognized the other kids and this symbolized how it got dark in the middle of the day when Jesus was on the Cross.
E - at the Baltic's the kids collected real eggs in the barn. Here we did "E"aster Eggs and the analogy the eggs are similar shape to a stone. We talked about the 2 thieves, 1 cross carrier, cock crowing 3 times, and 1 giant stone. This equals 7 and they thread 7 buttons onto a safety pin and put it onto their jean pocket. The kids then got chocolate milk boxes from the Batlics for a drink break.
S - at a Local Park we talked with the kids about "S"aviour who sacrificed himself for our sins to be our sunshine as he arose on the 3rd day (to correlate with our 3rd stop). We discussed that he shed his blood for us, and each kid got some band-aids to go into their jean pocket. We all enjoyed packed lunches and let the kids play at the park.
U - at DQ - "U" and I are called to be fishers of men for Jesus. We talked about Jesus coming to talk with his disciples after he arose. Each kid got a pack of ediable goldfish from the Troyers. We ALL enjoyed some yummy DQ ice-cream.
S - At our final stop at the Katanics we learned about "S"erving Jesus by loving Him and loving others. Each got a small notebook red heart on the front. Then they got to go through a life size maze that was wrapped around trees outside with lots of rope. It was huge and the kids really enjoyed it. Then they went inside for snack and crafts.

EXHAUSTED!!! after this fun filled Hop Along Day - but it was so fun and we think the kids really enjoyed it.
